What it is:
WinIP is software that allows you to use a fixed host name
in place of your dynamically assigned IP addresses (by going through
an ISC DNS server in Oak Park). Once you install this software,
any SecurePhone™ user on the Internet can reach you whenever
you are online by "dialing" the static host name that
represents your computer.
How it works:
When you dial-up your ISP and are assigned a dynamic IP
address, WinIP automatically updates that address in our DNS database.
As long as you are online, WinIP continues to let our server know
that you are available for calls. Other SecurePhone users can see
that you are online and will be able to reach you at your current
IP address.
This software was originally obtained from DragonMount, now Algenta
Technologies. See their site for more detailed technical information.
How to obtain and install it:
- Click on this link to download the installation
program (winip22.exe)
- Choose "Save this program to disk" and pick an appropriate
directory when prompted by your browser.
- Once the program has been received, open Windows Explorer and
navigate to the directory into which you saved it.
- Run the program winip22.exe to install WinIP. (Provide all required
default responses during installation.)
- After installation, the program should start automatically
and you will see the following dialog:

If WinIP doesn't start automatically, you may run it from the
Start Menu by selecting Start | Programs | WinIP | WinIP.
- Enter the following information in the two upper left control
groups:
Server Information
Protocol: DHIS
Server: 207.16.209.4
Mail relay: 207.16.209.4
Your Information
Host Name: <as provided by ISC>
HostID number: <as provided by ISC>
Host Password: <as provided by ISC>
- Check "Let the server determine my IP [address]" under
IP Configuration.
- Choose File | Options and check all the boxes so that the dialog
looks like this:

- Click OK to close this dialog.
- Before continuing, make sure you are online. If necessary, initiate
a connection to your ISP now.
- Once you are online, switch back to WinIP and click Start (below
the large ODS graphic in the main dialog).
This will start the WinIP service. You should see "Updating
the server..." in the lower message pane. Then, possibly
a minute later, you should see "<your hostname>
is now online" as in the screen shot for step 5 above. Notice
that the letters "IP" on WinIP's system tray icon turn
green once you are registered with our server. (If you do not
see the "now online" message after a few minutes, you
should ping our server at 207.16.209.4 to verify that *it* is
up and running!)
- Click the Minimize button (leftmost button in the upper right
border of the main dialog) to send the WinIP application to your
Windows system tray.
You're all set!
